About The Empire Open Math Contest
The Empire Open Math Contest is a math contest open to all ages, including adults, meant to offer the fun and challenge of olympiad style math problem solving to all ages. Our long term goal is to eventually offer a series of contests ranging from beginner to IMO/Putnam difficulty (And even beyond that if possible) that folks of all ages can enjoy.

This contest was held in August 2023 in Chelsea NY . It featured a tricky mix of problems ranging from medium AMC-12 to harder AIME difficulty. Special thanks to Terence Coelho, PhD student at Rutgers for contributing some of the problems. The problems can be found here . The solutions can be found here .

About Us
Viktor Krapivin
Co-President
Viktor Krapivin is a Lehigh Valley Math Team alumnus who competed from 2010 to 2014 and captained Team Thunder in his final year. He earned his BS in Math and Physics from Rutgers in 2018, graduating summa cum laude, before completing his PhD in Applied Physics at Stanford University in 2024. Viktor currently serves as Head of Data Science at Treater, an AI merchandising startup.

Richard Liu
Co-President
Richard Liu is an alumnus of the Lehigh Valley Math Team from 2008-2013, participating in ARML, PUMaC and HMMT, in addition to AMC and AIME. He graduated from Duke University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and now works as a software engineer at an AI startup.

Terence Coelho
Problem Writer
Terence Coelho is a Lehigh Valley Math Team alumnus who holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University, where he was awarded the Presidential Fellowship. As an undergraduate, he placed 120th on the Putnam exam (97th percentile) and won the NJ University Mathematics Competition. He has since worked on mathematics benchmarking at Epoch AI and applied game theory at Metron, and currently works as a quantitative researcher at LSEG.

Sidharth Ghoshal is the founder of nycmath.org. He completed an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Rutgers and currently works in Cybersecurity at Bloomberg. He's frequently active on math.stackexchange.com and mathoverflow.
